Malibu Mondays with Cori Shearer
“When we say we’re seriously impressed by Cori Shearer, author of the popular blog ‘a la code‘, we’re not kidding. Raised in Pennsylvania and currently living in San Francisco, Cori spends most of her days working in digital tech. In her spare time, she writes her blog as a way to document her experience of being a feminine woman working in a man’s world. We have been in awe of her for awhile, not only because of her perspective and writing, but also because she spends a great deal of her time giving back to her community.”
How Delta Phi Epsilon Continues to Positively Impact the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
"Gratefully comfortable with a good career and a nice apartment, I was not, that long ago, on the receiving end of need as a little girl supported by school lunch and afterschool programs."
The Life of Product Manager and Lifestyle Blogger Cori Shearer
“Cori is a Product Manager at Shazam, and an inspiring lifestyle blogger at night. When I found out she only lived 10 minutes away in San Francisco, we immediately grabbed coffee on a lovely Friday afternoon and chatted work, fashion, and life.”
Eclectic Meets Cool Inside a Shazam Employee’s 235 Sq. Ft Studio
"Cori Shearer is living a life many of us could only dream of. Not only does she have a super cool job, the bravery to move to her dream city, and a lingering resemblance to Zendaya, but she also has the art of decorating in a small space absolutely nailed. Cori, a Product Manager at Shazam, picked up and moved to the Silicon Valley area to merge her passions for music and technology. Three years later, she calls an adorable 235 sq. ft studio home — and it’s going to make all your small-space-decorating dreams come true.
People-Centric Product Development
"During her sophomore year, Cori Shearer, BBA ’14, went on a service trip to Jamaica that inspired her approach to business and product development.
As part of the trip, hosted through the Howard Gittis Student Center, Shearer and her peers helped children in the local community develop an eco-friendly trash disposal system to combat the lack of disposal resources and irregular waste management maintenance. The experience reaffirmed her desire to devote her time and energy to serving fellow underrepresented populations and to take a people-centric approach to business."
Dancing for a cause
"Cori Shearer became interested in philanthropy through her passion for dance.
She’d been involved with volunteering at a young age, so the transition was natural for her. As a child she worked in animal shelters and helped organize social events for young people. A dedicated dancer who attended a performing arts high school and spent significant time training, Shearer interned at the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, Pa., where she worked with underprivileged and disabled students to help them find peace through dance."
Interns Tell Us What They Would Change At Silicon Valley’s Top Companies
"Hearing about Internapalooza from a Bay Area interns group on Facebook, Cori Shearer attended, wanting to be inspired.
“I’m always on the hustle and grind, so sometimes I need events like this to reinvigorate my energy and to remind myself why I’m here in the first place,” says Shearer.
An intern at Pandora, Shearer works in sales technology and on building ad products."
"Not long after Cori joined Shazam she was thrown into the deep-end on a couple of very high profile projects. She showed her strength and ambitiousness and was a key player in the success of both these projects. The Snapchat project, in particular, was a pivotal moment in proving she was a force to be reckoned with - her depth of research, level of knowledge and understanding of what a successful integration should look like was commendable.
Cori is also super creative and I’m consistently awed by how she’s able to multitask not only her 9-5 but all her “extra-curricular” charity work, her tremendous support of Girls in Tech and her awesome blogs (not to mention her photography and those design skillz!). Her positivity and drive to improve are truly inspirational."
"I hired Cori to work on Product at Shazam and her attitude and effort had her quickly making impact. She was able to ship features, the most important PM quality, but I was particularly impressed by her drive to tackle big product challenges that the company was facing as opposed to just optimizing current product workflows. Very quickly, she was in charge of product integration for our largest media partnership to date, which she shipped on time for a very happy customer! I look forward to working with Cori again"
"Cori joined StumbleUpon a year ago and has done a fantastic job in her role as Product Specialist. When she joined, her initial set of responsibilities included providing account management support for the StumbleUpon Advertising product. She did an excellent job of working with advertising customers, following up with product and engineering to escalate issues, and helping to resolve them. Based on her skills, she was then asked to take on expanded role at StumbleUpon. She joined StumbleUpon Network product and team, while still continuing to support the Advertising product. With StumbleUpon Network, she worked on multiple facets of the product including: pitching offering to potential partners, working with product and engineering to escalate issues, helping to define reporting and features for the product, brainstorming & launching brand new design concept for product, and quality checking product on partners' sites. Based on her accomplishments, she has become a core part of the team and performed exceptionally in building out new product while maintaining an existing one."
"I had the pleasure of working with Cori in the context of her joining Pandora's Program Management team as summer intern and could not recommend her enough. Her pro-active approach, eagerness to learn and sense of humor earned her, in a matter of only a few weeks, a solid reputation both within and outside the team. While Cori focused primarily on ad products from an adops perspective, her level of enthusiasm & ability to pick up on technical concepts enabled her to work across several teams and provided her with exposure into the other components of the ad product business (legal, design, etc.). Any organization would be lucky to have her & I'd most definitely be thrilled to work with Cori again."
"Cori is an extremely dedicated, organized and creative individual. She took the lead on all of her assigned tasks and went above and beyond what was required. She is very self motivated and brought a lot of new ideas and recommendations to our business model. Cori would be an excellent addition to any team or company!"
"Cori was a great worker who exceeded our expectations as our departmental research intern in the summer of 2013. She is an accomplished presenter, has a keen eye for detail, and was a pleasure to work with. I know she will be a valued asset wherever she chooses to continue her career."
"Cori is a diligent, tireless worker. Daily she brought fresh, new ideas to the office while meeting every deadline she was given. A wonderful asset to any organization."
